Hebburn Cemetery opened in 1890, and covers an area of 16 acres. Anyone can be buried here irrespective of where they live or their religious beliefs.

The cemetery lodge and chapel are Grade II listed buildings and the chapel is available to be used for funeral services.

Please note that there is no cemetery office on site.

Cars are permitted to drive through the cemetery, although we ask that drivers do not exceed the speed limit of 10 mph.

Whilst we welcome careful and considerate dog owners, dogs must be kept on a lead no longer than 1.5 metres. It is an offence to not clean up after your dog.

Family History and Genealogy Research

Copies of Hebburn Cemetery's burial records are held in the Local Studies Department of The Word. The records are free to use. They're in great demand so it's a good idea to make an appointment to use them. You can contact the library on 0191 424 7864.

If you're unable to visit the library, we can conduct research for you. However, there is a charge for this service. Contact us for more information or use the Burial records search facility.
