The VELO is a community of road cyclists based out of Gypsies Green Velodrome South Shields, with frequent club rides setting off from across the region.
One of the regions largest road cycling clubs and affiliated with both British Cycling and Cycling Time Trials, membership is made up of men, women and children of varying age groups and abilities. It doesn't matter if you're new to road cycling or a seasoned professional, the VELO has something to offer you.
Ride outs take place at least three times a week, all year round, with rides of varying distance and ability. If a programmed ride isn't suitable, members then create their own ride and invite the rest of the club to take part. This is a great way to get involved and take part in group rides exploring the towns and nearby countryside; stops are often made for coffee and cake too!
During the winter months, spinning/turbo training classes are held on a Wednesday evening at Temple Park Centre for members wanting to keep their fitness up.
If you're thinking of getting into road cycling, but not sure if it's for you or maybe your current bike is damaged, then a "loan" racing bike is available for the use of any member or nominated friend of a member, whom simply wants to try out cycling without the expense. The bike comes with helmet and all necessary equipment.
The VELO is fully inclusive, with Welfare Officers available to make your transition into the club as smooth as possible. If you have any queries on joining or regarding the club, then please contact either of our Welfare Officers or Club Chairman for details by emailing Mark Pearson firstname.lastname@example.org Christine Marshall email@example.com or Barry Marshallchairman@southshieldsvelocc.co.uk.
