COVID-19: Council libraries

All four Council libraries are now open for collecting pre-ordered books, using a computer, and browsing selected shelves.

You must book an appointment before visiting.

How to renew / reserve books online

To renew or reserve books online you will need your:

  • library card number
  • pin (this is the same pin you use to access our eBooks and library computers)

If you have any problems please email library.support@southtyneside.gov.uk, call 0191 427 1818 or contact your local library.

 

Renew books online

Renewing books online means you can:

  • avoid late fees
  • renew your books from home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • keep track of all of your library loans and when they're due back

To renew your book over the phone, contact The Word Library on 0191 427 1818.

Renew books in person

To renew your books in person visit your local library

If you need any help please call us, quoting your library card number on 0191 427 1818 (Monday to Thursday 9am to 7pm, Friday 9am to 5pm, Saturday to Sunday 10am to 4pm) or email library.support@southtyneside.gov.uk

You must be a registered member to reserve / renew books online, if you are not a member you can Join the library for free.

Reserve a library book

If you can't find the book or item you want and it is in stock or on order, you can reserve it.

When it's ready to collect, you can choose to be told by email or text message. There is usually a charge for this service.

If the book has already been requested, you may be added to a waiting list.

How to reserve a book online

We are currently unable to accept reservation due to current Government guidance on the use of library stock and transporting library stock.

If you have a book you would like to collect, you must pre-order it over phone. For more information on pre-ordering and collecting books, see Phased reopening of Council libraries.

You can check which books are available by searching the online library catalogue, however you will not be able to reserve any books online.

eBooks

You can borrow and renew eBooks with a South Tyneside Libraries card, find out more about eBooks, eAudiobooks and online magazines .

You can access a range of services on the app from borrowing, reserving or renewing a title, finding out information about opening hours and events taking place at your local library and lots more.

The South Tyneside libraries app is available to download on the Apple Store and Android.
