Pay your council tax online 

Direct debit

Stop worrying about going to pay for your Council Tax, and reminder letters if you don't pay on time, by paying by Direct Debit.

With Direct Debit, select one of the following dates and let your bank do the hard work;

1st, 11th, 15th, 21st, or 28th
Weekly (each Friday)

Your Council Tax is payable in monthly instalments in accordance with your bill.

Or you can complete the Direct debit form114.65KB and send it back to us.





Please note there is no need to cancel your Direct Debit when your Council Tax charge has been paid in full. The Direct Debit will automatically resume when the new Financial Year starts.


Payment by cash can be made at any Post Office or any retail outlet displaying the PayPoint logo. Payments by this method may take up to 4 working days to be credited to your account.


Cheques should be made payable to "South Tyneside Council", and sent to South Tyneside Council,  Hawthorne Building, Rolling Mill Road, Viking Industrial Estate, Jarrow, NE32 3DP.

Payment by Debit Card can be made via an automated telephone line:

Standing Order

Payment can be made by Standing Order. Contact your bank and include the following information, South Tyneside Council, Lloyds Bank Plc, King Street Branch.

Account number: 35508568 Sort Code: 30-97-89

Please ensure the only other information quoted is the 7 digit council tax account number
