Worn Stories: Discover the Secrets of Your Clothes
Clothes are rich with information about identity, society, politics and culture. They live alongside us and experience the world with us, and we can learn a great deal from them. In this workshop Fashion Historian Sarah-Mary Geissler will guide you through how to "read" the secrets of your clothes.
Bring along a garment (old or new) and we will closely examine it to extract the stories within its stitches. Based on the methods of historians and museum curators, you will document your observations and as a group discuss your findings. You will then use this visual information to write and share the biography of your clothing.
Wednesday 9 October, 6-7.30pm
Booking required. Tickets £2 per person.
This event is part of Green Libraries Week which takes place 7-13 October and celebrates the work going on in libraries across the UK, focused on sustainability and climate change.
