Simonside Outdoor Adventure are hosting a series of cycle rides throughout 2023 and 2024. The programme is part of their work with the Outdoor Education Service for South Tyneside Council.

The programme aims to promote and increase independent cycling, by:

  • raising awareness of local cycle paths and shared routes
  • increasing confidence on roads and the skills to ride unaided in a safe manner

The programme

The rides will be led by British cycling qualified trail cycle and mountain bike leaders, who are trained to develop your independent riding skills.

To ensure as many people as possible can take part in these sessions, we will be offering:

  • rides aimed at beginners, intermediates and more experienced cyclists
  • adult only cycling
  • family based rides

Rides will take place during school holidays, as well as on weekends and summer evenings.

They will take between 2 and 2 and a half hours.

The popularity of the rides will be reviewed, and adjustments will be made accordingly to the types of sessions running, as the project progresses.

Equipment provided

You will get access to mountain bikes in a range of sizes, as well as other essential equipment, including:
