Overview

South Tyneside Council recognises that a greater number of people have found themselves, or their families, struggling financially.

The Council has agreed to award up to £100 hardship relief against the 23 / 24 Council Tax Bill for all Council Tax Support customers.

In addition to this, the government have provided additional funding to pay all Council Tax Support customers up to £25 additional payment.

This year the total additional amount that you may receive is up to £125.

How the hardship relief will be shown on your bill

Your Council Tax Bill for 23 / 24 will include the hardship payment.

The charge covers the period 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.


Eligibility

You will be eligible if you are one of over 17,500 households who receive Council Tax Support (which supports those on lower incomes) during the financial year 23 / 24.


What to do next

If you already receive Council Tax Support, you do not need to take any further action.
