Guidance for schools with RAAC
The safety and wellbeing of all our students and staff is our number one priority.
We would like to reassure parents and carers that checks have been carried out on all council-maintained schools to see if RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) is present.
As far as we are aware, the only school which is affected is St James Catholic Primary in Hebburn which is part of an Academy Trust. We are working with our partner schools to support them.
We understand St James School will be closed this week and parents should receive communication from the school about their contingency plans.
All other schools will be open.
The Department for Education (DfE) has published updated guidance for schools with confirmed or suspected RAAC. See, GOV.UK: RAAC management information.
