Job Centre Plus

Who we are:

We are an executive agency of the Department of Work and Pensions, working with a wide range of partners. Jobcentre Plus promotes work as the best form of welfare whilst providing appropriate help and support for those people without work through our network of Jobcentres and Social Security offices.

*

What we have to offer:

We deliver a range of services to people of working age and employers. Our customers receive a more work-focused service, including where appropriate the help of a Personal Adviser and access to the range of New Deal provision in place.

Pathways 2 Work is a programme of support Jobcentre Plus delivers with colleagues from the Primary Care Trust, and is currently supporting customers in receipt of Incapacity Benefit back into employment. New Deal for Lone Parents is delivered to those bringing up children alone and in receipt of a welfare benefit. The service has been extremely successful and combines expert help on the availability of Childcare (and how to pay for it) with help to see how they can be better off in work by claiming New Tax Credits etc. We have developed a range of flexible products through our New Deals, which focus on individual clients needs including education, training, work experience and help with childcare. This has led us to being one of the most successful New Deal operations within the Region.

We have a sound knowledge of the local labour market based on our daily business with both employers and jobseekers.

Who we are in touch with:

We are in touch with a wide range of employers both within and beyond South Tyneside to help fill their job vacancies.

Within the Borough we have strong links with a range of agencies through our involvement with STEP, South Tyneside College, South Tyneside Council, Neighbourhood Renewal, other regeneration initiatives and our normal mainstream programme providers.

Our role in the LSP

The LSP is important to Jobcentre Plus because without it, we would be unable to effectively deliver the Government's Welfare to Work agenda in South Tyneside.

Our primary role is to actively develop, support and encourage regeneration and other strategic initiatives that lead to sustainable employment for local residents and, to extend our job broking and support services to a wider employer base.
