Local Studies Based at the Central library in South Shields, the Local Studies Library is a well-used service, and recieves enquiries from around the world from people searching for family history or local information. Our services are used by many different people, including those tracing their family history, students with projects and people interested in the photographic collections. Architects, builders and those wishing to trace the history of a property also use the resources of the library, for as well as maps we hold the Building Control Index for South Shields and local directories which help to build up a picture of South Tyneside both today and yesterday. What do we have to offer? We have a wide range of resources to assist with your search including: books, pamphlets, videos, posters, maps, photographs, microfiche and microfilm.
