Personal search of the Local Land Charges Register
Anyone may make a personal search of the Local Land Charges Register free of charge, by appointment. Appointments are available on a "first come, first served" basis. Appointments can be made by contacting the Local Land Charges Team. Anyone wishing to make a personal search of the Register should provide the Local Land Charges Team with details of the property be searched against no later than 2 full working days before the appointment.
It must be stressed that a personal search is only of the Local Land Charges Register and does not provide answers to questions asked on the CON29 enquiry form. Once the register has been inspected, the personal search has been concluded. You may also examine other registers open to public inspection including the Planning Register.
The council received notification from Defra in July 2010, stating, the Government has concluded that charging a fee for a personal search of the Local Land Charges register is incompatible with the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the underlying 2003 EU Directive. The Government has therefore revoked the current £22 fee. South Tyneside Council has stopped charging this fee with immediate effect.
