Landreth House To Close For Refurbishment

Press release

A well-used Council building is getting a makeover thanks to a refurbishment programme that will see the building turned into a bright and welcoming place for staff and customers alike.

Landreth House on Boldon Lane, South Shields will close to the public from Monday (29th November) and will remain closed until March next year so that essential refurbishment work can take place.

Councillor Michael Clare, Lead Member for Neighborhood Services, is delighted with the proposals outlined in the refurbishment programme. He said: "Landreth House is one of our busiest offices. It offers a wide range of Council Services for everyone in the area. The refurbishment is long overdue and when it is completed it will help to create an inviting atmosphere for both the customers and staff alike."

Whilst the refurbishment work is underway, alternative arrangements have been made for customers.

Social Care and Health Customers can still reach a Social Worker Service from Landreth House by ringing 427 1919. Personal callers can visit the Referral and Assessment Service at 38 Laygate Place, South Shields between the hours of 8.30am and 5pm from Monday to Friday.
Rent can be paid at the Council's other Housing Offices. If customers would like a visit from a rent collector they can call 424 4804. Alternatively, if customers would like to make payments by Standing Order they can call 424 4804. Repairs can still be reported by phone on the usual number 427 1919.

Housing Officers are holding surgeries at different locations in South Shields. Details can be obtained by calling 427 1919.

Councillor Clare added: "We are making a big effort to minimise any inconvenience to our customers. Anyone who is worried should get in touch. In the meantime I know the results will be worth the wait."
